About ColumBlogs

ColumBlogs is an online resource for everything related to blogging in Columbus, Ohio. This site includes blog-related news updates, information on how blogs can affect local culture, businesses, and citizens, and a collection of links to other helpful resources and community blogs around Columbus.

ColumBlogs was started after a recent trend was recognized in several local media publications where multiple city leaders and development consultants were cited as saying that Columbus simply doesn’t have enough bloggers.

There are a number of reasons that could be causing this lack of blogging in Columbus. Some people may not really know what a blog is. Some people may not realize the range of topics that a blog can be used for. Some people may not realize how easy it is to set one up. No matter which reason you may think has the most effect on local bloggers, the obvious solution to this problem can be boiled down to one word:

Education.

Seeing that this educational gap needed to be filled on a local level, we decided to create a resource to help Columbus residents get started with their blogs and encourage them to take an active part in voicing their opinions both online and in person. Sure, there are plenty of online tutorials already out there, but sometimes it takes a familiar helping hand to really encourage someone to take the first step in trying something new.

Columbus is currently in a rapid state of change, which is exciting and invigorating for local residents. We want to continue to see our beloved city develop and progress, and the more vocal it’s citizens become, the more involved we can all be with making Columbus the best that it can be.

So, don’t think of this as an end-all site for how to blog, or what you should be blogging about, but instead as a good place to get some friendly help on getting started, and a great place to keep up with what other people are doing and how the landscape of Columbus blogging is evolving on a daily basis.

I have had a blog about urban, Columbus life for almost two years…it was first on blogspot, at http://www.pinkghetto.blogspot.com and then I moved it to myspace at blogs.myspace.com/thepinkghetto…

I get between 300-500 hits a day, talking about Columbus nightlife, music, concerts, relationships, ect…mostly all from Columbus people…so there are blogs in this city…just because the focus isn’t what is always on High St., doesn’t that there isn’t a vibrant community of people who life blog-style writing…

Check mine out and let me know what you think…

I like the concept of this blog. One major complaint though – how do you contact the owners to add your blog?

I guess I should add a contact page, eh? ;)

Thanks!

Just an FYI Walker…WordPress just added a contact form to its tools.

You won’t have to display your e-mail address and get pelted with spam.

I think it’s interesting to note that leaders believe there aren’t enough blogs in Columbus. Which Columbus blogs are they aware of and reading? How many blogs would be enough?

Dave of Dave’s Beer has a nice list of Columbus blogs and links:

Maureen of Discover Columbus also links to several local blogs on her front page:

Also, someone on del.icio.us started a “columbusblogger” tag that you can search on to find numerous Columbus bloggers. I’ve tried to add Central Ohio bloggers to that list as I discover them.

Good luck with ColumBlogs.

Do photoblogs count? I’ve had my blog for almost a year now; granted I do post photos from all around central Ohio (London, Marion, Delaware, Zanesville, Lancaster, etc.) but I live and work in Columbus and the vast majority of the photos are taken here.
