- It gives you a solid voice.
Blogging is important for any type of community, as it allows anyone to voice their opinions in an easily readable and universally accessible manner. What this means for the city of Columbus is that it can give any local resident the power to broadcast their thoughts to everyone who is interested in hearing them.
- It’s the “New” Townhall.
Citizens of Columbus need to step up and take a more active role in shaping the future of our city. You may find yourself liking or disliking a certain idea, but if you keep those criticisms to yourself, they’re not doing anyone any good. It’s understandable that not everyone has the time nor the energy to actively participate in neighborhood associations, townhall meetings, or other types of scheduled events where opinions can be voiced in a more traditional manner. And even if everyone did have the time to attend these meetings, you can only get a few of your questions answered or opinions stated because so many other people are fighting for their turn to speak up.
With a blog, every person has an unlimited amount of speaking time, and your opinions can be archived and read by interested parties at their own convince. Blog subscriptions can be set up so that your readers don’t even need to seek out your blog to check for updates; they can be delivered straight to them just moments after you post them.
- A stronger identify for diversity.
Columbus is a much more diverse city than many people give it credit for. There’s a range of ethnicities, cultures, religions, and ideas here, which cultivate a broad spectrum of organizations, businesses, recreations, and gatherings.
Many of these groups make up a small portion of the Columbus demographic and it’s not too often that everyone gets a chance to share the limelight in traditional forms of media limited by the length of a printed article or the time-slot for a local news story.
A blog can give these smaller groups a stronger voice and a simple solution for distributing their news and information both within their organization and outside it.
- Because every big idea starts out small.
Blogging is important for Columbus because it can help to spread awareness, distribute information, bring new questions to light, and provide new opportunities to network and collaborate and turn what may start out as a small ideas into a big one.

What a great idea to have a Columbus blog support center of types. I’m a regular reader of some of the Columbus blogs you have listed and will be checking out the others shortly. One idea: use this site as a place to start Columbus blog challenges. For example you could post a topic (best locally owned restuarant) and have all your bloggers post on their own sites their vote.
Thanks for the feedback Amy! I think “Blog Challenges” are a great idea! Sounds like a great way to keep people talking and stir up some new conversations.
I know I am not fully objective – but as a lifelong CMH resident – I think my blog is a good resource.
